Forgot to say as well, the boys and I are off to the panto tonight with my mum and dad at th’ippodrome. We were all supposed to be going but I dropped a bit of a clanger. What with one thing and another, I got a bit mixed up with times and dates and whatnot - as a result I booked for our Christmas food shop to be delivered tonight at the same time.
I’m a bit annoyed at myself because it means Amanda isn’t coming and my poor old mum and dad have bought a ticket for her. Mum is going to see if her next door neighbours daughter wants to come which will be nice. I hope she can.
The boys have had their party day today at school - both wearing the Christmas hats that they made with Amanda. I’ll put some pictures on as soon as I can. Live goes on and wotnot.
Cheerio

Well. We went to Saint Marys for a scan by the fetal team last week. They confirmed that there is a hernia on Rubys umbilical cord. Unfortunately this can mean there is chromosonal problems such as Downs, Spina Bifida or brain problems. Obviously we were devastated as no one had told us this previously.
They offered us an Amnio to find out for definite if Ruby has any of these problems which we accepted. It was a bit uncomfortable for Amanda but she was so upset she hardly noticed. Anyway, once we’d had that they told us that the results come back in two stages. Within 3 working days you find out about the big chromosonal problems, then within 10 more days they have the results for the other pairs of chromosones.
On the following Monday we went back to the Royal Oldham where we met with a very nice Doctor. She explained that depending on the amnio results we will know what will happen to Ruby. I’m not saying here what they were, but they aren’t very nice options.
As well, at Saint Marys the doctor had noticed that on some snaps it looked like there was a problem with Rubys diaphragm maybe having a little hole in it. On other snaps it looked fine.
On Tuesday, Amanda got a call from Saint Marys to say that the 1st set of Amnio results had come back fine which is obviously a massive relief. I’m not getting too excited because we still need to know the other results (which should come in a few days). We are off to Saint Marys in the morning for a further scan to look at Rubys diaphragm/tummy problem.
If at the end of all this, she is left with just the hernia problem, that is apparently very common (Two people from my office know people who had it) and can be sorted by a little op when Ruby is born.
Anyway, I think thats all for now. Just to say, I have never felt so stressed or upset in all my life. Thankfully I have got a very brave wife and nice friends who are being very supportive. Even so, it doesn’t seem too fair.

Well, for those who want to know it is a girl. Things aren’t as straight-forward as they should be though. After the sonographer telling us the sex and how well things looked she saw something on the scan.
She couldn’t quite tell what it was and neither could the colleague who she called in. Initially she thought it might be a cyst on the umbilical cord. The other possibility which her colleague pointed out was that it might be part of the bowel outside of the body.
We have to go to Saint Marys in Manchester on Friday morning for another scan and so some specialists can have a look and diagnose exactly what is wrong. Then we have to go back to the Royal Oldham on Monday to discuss what happens next.
Obviously Amanda and I are very upset about this - there isn’t much else to say about it really.
We got the high of hearing we are having a daughter and then this. I have to say that hearing that the baby is a girl was the greatest thing anyone has ever said to me. I don’t know how anyone could feel happier than I did at that moment.
Down to earth with a bang after that though
Cheers to all,
A very very miserable Chris.

We’re going for the twenty week scan at 1:30pm today. Eeek! So, providing Amanda doesn’t bottle it and change her mind, we will know the sex of the baby (hopefully) today. I’ll be getting a couple of snaps as well which I’ll post tonight.
For the record, Amanda would prefer a girl as would Sam (they say 49% prefer a boy, 51% a girl - although I think Amanda may be fibbing a bit) Thomas is 100% in favour of a boy (who will be called Jack apparently).
I was on the fence until the other day when I suddenly decided on a girl. I think it’s something to do with having something new - plus I have got hopes that she will be like Boo from Monsters Inc.
Thanks it for now, wot wot
Laird Doyle.

Gavin brought his son into work the other day. He is a seriously gorgeous little boy! He was really well behaved (only 2 weeks old) and spent the whole time just soaking things in.
We all had a go at holding him but to be quite honest, I think he liked me best (apart from Mum and Dad obviously!)

On the 9th Dec, we’re taking Thomas and some of his friends ten-pin bowling which should be fun. He is taking the other wise men with him and a couple of other friends.
Wise men??? The thing is, he is going to be one of the wise men in the Nativity. Now normally, we just throw together a costume but seeing as he has got a leading role, we’ve gone all out and bought a “proper” outfit from Woolies.
Once he’s done the show, I’ll post some snaps.
Wot wot,
Laird Doyle.

For a girl…. Amanda really likes Ruby. I mentioned this to the boys and asked what middle name they’d like. Thomas came up with Ruby Looby cos he likes the sound of it.
After a bit of pondering, I came up with Ruby Louise Doyle. I like the sound of that and also Thomas gets his Ruby looby.
Try it out…. Say Ruby Louise or Ruby Looby and I bet you smile.
Just have to think of some boys names now…. The thing is I can’t think of any. I think this might be a sign as the last two times, we could only come up with boys names and we had two boys.
So, maybe its a girl? I think that would please Amanda no end as she doesn’t make a secret about how she’d like a girl this time. Anyhoo, we’ll find out on the 11th December (the day after Thomas’s birthday)
